Hi, my name is Kelly Smith, and I want to share with you an adventure I had in business with the goal of creating an exiting adventure for you! In the early 1990s, I had a vision of the future regarding digital printing and became one of the first grand format digital printers in the world. This could be a very long story discussing all of the hurdles and opposition I faced, but I built that company up to 30 employees and eventually worked for these companies and many others. My goal is to help you have a similar experience in taking your dream or vision and converting it into a business that can provide you the means to live the way you want. There’s no way to really understand what’s going on in your business and see where the problems lie from phone calls or even Zoom meetings.
I ask a lot of questions, and when I get a response like, "We've always done it that way," I know where to start on improvement.
I have an innate ability to see solutions to problems, usually faster than anyone else. It’s a skill that I was born with. Just like Elon Musk suffers from ADHD, I probably have that too, and most likely, you will be surprised at what I recommend from even a short time in your plant or office. I may not know all the technicalities of your computer programs, electrical systems, machinery, and production lines, but it won’t take me long to figure out a possible answer.
Also, dealing with people in a business is always interesting.
Having family members in a business can either be your greatest asset or your worst nightmare. Sometimes, if you want the company to survive, hard decisions that may take years to repair family relationships must be made. But I know what that is like, too, as I had to “retire” my father early. It’s one thing to deal with problems with sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, etc., in business, but your own father? That is extremely difficult.
Tyrants in Business will someday profoundly regret their actions
I’ve also found that some owners have let success go to their heads, and they have become monsters who are overly demanding and downright irrational. I’m not a big fan of Unions in business, but history has shown that some people use their status and power to rule as tyrants that treat their employees like chattel. In some cases, unions have sprung up to protect employees from such dictatorial brutality.
If you are like one of these “Kings” you probably won’t sign up in the form below as I will call you out. If you have millions of dollars while your employees are barely scraping by, we must address that.
Your response to that last line will say a lot about you and whether we can work together.
Speaking of Unions, in many cases, they have become worse than the owners they replaced and have prevented growth in the business, forcing many companies to go overseas for profitability. We won’t solve this deep subject here, but I’m aware of some of the issues that must be addressed.
Additionally, you may need someone to call you out. Many famous Rock Stars, Movie idols, and others who are rich and famous have gone off the deep end because no one would tell them that their actions are stupid and self-destructive. You may need someone to set you straight. I’m not a “Yes man” and will say something if I see things going wrong.
Fire me if you want to but maybe I’m the person you need to help get you back on track because I can guarantee that if that attitude is in your life right now, many additional problems you don’t know about are happening, and your company may not survive. Your marriage and the relationships with children and other family members are not in good shape.

Another thing a lot of business owners need is a true friend. The old saying that it's lonely at the top is correct. Sometimes, people remain your friends as long as you have the money. Otherwise, they are off to the next person. Business owners need help finding others who can relate to such a position's stresses, struggles, dreams, and hopes. Everybody claims they understand how hard it is, but they don't. When the pressures of bills, regulations, employee problems, relationship issues, competition, being lied to, and many other things that no one else understands. But I do understand those things. I want to be your friend and help you reach your potential. I have clients that I still call regularly, even though we last did business years ago. They pay me if they need me to do something; otherwise, we can talk.
